After a series of coastal disasters erased entire neighborhoods, governments began reconstructing cities from fragments: damaged buildings, personal belongings, recordings, and physical traces. I became interested in the people whose stories had been lost inside those fragments.


What started as helping reconstruct individual incidents eventually became a career in forensic research, where my job was to work backwards from what remained and determine what most likely happened.
